Have you ever created a Vision Statement?
Everything starts with a Vision.
Where do you see yourself:
• One Year from Now?
• Two Years from Now?
• Five Years from Now?
Have you thought about it?
What would you like to change? What would you like to accomplish?
Before you can ever expect to create the life you want, you must know and see exactly what you want.
Let me share a little of my story and how having a vision statement can really make all the difference!
In 1998, I received a book for Christmas titled “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari”, by Robin Sharma. I was not an avid book reader at the time, however when I began to read this book, I just couldn’t put it down.
It inspired me to become more, to do more and to help others.
During that time in my life, there were many areas I wanted to improve. At the top of the list was time for my family, time for myself, and to have financial security.
I remember laying in my bed one night and I began to think and write. I wrote out a vision statement of the life I wanted.
Fast Forward to today. Everything I wrote down in that first vision statement has come true.
My husband and I work from home with our own home business. We work around our family schedule. We take family vacations every year. My husband and I also take personal vacations to enjoy each other. My family is completely debt free. We have savings for our future and our children. We have peace of mind.
Without question, I believe it all started because I “saw” it first. I had some personal moments with myself, and then I took pen to paper and wrote out exactly what I wanted to create for my life.
Here are my top 5 tips to creating a powerful vision statement to begin your journey to creating a great life!
- Confront the Brutal Facts. Take some time to have a personal moment with yourself regarding where you are right now in your life. Are there things you want to change or improve? What are they? Do you take personal responsibility for where you are right now? What could you do differently to create different results?
- Understand that your current reality is a direct result of the thoughts and choices that YOU have made is a huge step to move forward. As Dr. Phil always says, “You can not change, what you don’t acknowledge”. Realize that YOU hold the key to having new thoughts and making new decisions. No one can create a great life for you. You must create it for yourself.
- When you begin to write out your vision, date the page with a date in the future. (The date you expect this vision to be a reality).
- As you write your vision, write in the present tense. Be as visual as possible. For example; “It’s 5:00am, Saturday, May 3rd, 2013. I got up early to enjoy the sunrise today. I’m sitting here having my coffee and my life is absolutely wonderful.” Continue on with the goals you’ve accomplished over the past 2-3 years and how it feels. Be very specific.
- Sign it. Put it in a place, like your night stand, where you can easily go back to read it daily. There is power in your thoughts. What you think, makes all the difference.

Love it and thanks for sharing Donna! I think one of the hardest things for most of us to do, is to “confront the brutal facts”, yet it’s one of the most important things to do. Have that long hard meeting with you and you. Confront the brutal facts, then DECIDE. Make a decision and take action!! thank you again for an incredible post…it’s helped me and I’m sure will help many others!!

You are an inspiration and offer such great advice. I used to think if I just worked hard I would get to where I wanted to go, but through personal experience and mentoring I realized you have to work hard on the ‘right’ tasks to succeed. In order to know the right tasks you must have a vision. My detailed vision has been coming to light lately and I now have direction. Thank you for your post.
Thanks for visiting and sharing Heather! You are so right…Working on the “right tasks” creates more success, which leads to confidence and having fun!

Donna, I love that you mentioned having your vision somewhere you will see it daily so that you can take action to accomplish all those things. It is so easy to sit back and wish something would happen or wish that things would change… Having that vision in front of you as a constant reminder is such a powerful thing!

Great tips Donna….Taking personal accountability for where we are in our life can be hard to admit probably for most poeple. It can be so easy to blame others, our circumstances or the day to day challenges we can be faced with. Yet taking that accountability is the first step in the right direction to changing the direction you want your life to go. I’m in the process now of implementing the tips you have just shared with us…thank you.
Hey Cathy! Thanks for commenting! I’m so glad you’re implementing the tips! Keep me posted with how it goes!!
